Kilts

Post Number:#1  Postby TWW » Sun Mar 01, 2015 7:44 am

Perhaps it means I am getting old or older depending on how one wants to look at it but the rules of what goes on in society keep changing on me. Many things that in the past were almost unthinkable like gay marriage, legal pot or not having kids without being married being the norm are now par for the course. I am not saying any of this is necessarily bad. That depends on one's values but some of the changes are puzzling. So here is my latest bewilderment: men carrying military style rifles wearing 'dresses'. Really the dresses are kilts but I cannot understand the attraction to wearing them. The only thing I can think of is men who wear them do not wear underwear either and hope a strong breeze comes along and lifts the kilt so they can tell the world open carry is so important to them they open carry their genitalia also to show they are true believers in their cause. Now that is idle speculation. Doe anyone have any better information? Not everyone out there has ancestors from Scotland.

I know a number of people who wear them, but all are Scots. Thinking of two in particular, one is a carpenter who wears one to work every day. The other is a motorcyclist. I've run in to him at various Moto Guzzi and BMW rallies around the country. I don't believe I've ever seen either in a pair of pants. In their defense, both speak with a heavy accent.
The carpenter reminds me of Robin Williams doing his Origins of Golf monologue. He talks so fast and with such a heavy accent that 90% of what he says goes right past me.

If someone want to wear a kilt around it is their business. I probably came off too negatively before but I am really puzzled about what kilts have to do with carrying rifles around and bugging the police.

I do not own a kilt. There are enough other ways I irritate people.

If I was going to participate in an activity that could cause an LEO to flop me on the ground, I would certainly not choose that day to wear a kilt. But I have some small amount of common sense (and decency).

I often think what my parents views of today's world would be.

seen a male wearing a skirt (not a kilt), in a restaurant. Got a lot of looks. Think a cross dresser.

Thanks for the link. I think this part of the ad could be the appeal of kilts: "TAKE THE 5.11 KILT OFF CHALLENGE
ARE YOU MAN ENOUGH?" I could not find any kilts in the 5.11 site but did find some on Amazon made by other companies.

Here is a picture of a kilt at a Walker rally: http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=HN.607997211582595368&w=300&h=300&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0 Notice the weather was nice then :)

And I could not resist posting this one: http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=HN.607986624494241683&w=300&h=300&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0

5.11 made a short run of "tactical Duty" kilts as a response to a challange
and they had talked about doing it again
but there are plenty of "duty" kilts on the market

real men don't never mind what they wear or what others think
